Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving

“And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. “Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth.” Isaiah 12:4-5

On this beautiful Thanksgiving day, it’s important to reflect on what each of us are thankful for. I find it easy to make a list of the normal things that I’m thankful for each year; my family being at the top of the list.

But what about those small things that maybe are quite as noticeable in giving thanks. Like waking up every morning because God has blessed you with another day. Or in that same morning snooze (again) because you have a job to go to. Or sitting in traffic everyday because you are coming home from your job in some form of transportation. Or cleaning your house daily because your kids make a mess, only to mean you have a family and a roof over your head.

Each of these are blessings and are probably all too often forgotten. And taken for granted. But today, on a day of Thanksgiving, we must remember what we’re truly thankful for. Even in the most difficult times, there’s always, always something to be thankful for.

As I sit and reflect on my personal blessings, I so am so thankful for many different people and things. Let me share a few-

I’m thankful for my family. My two little ones are such a blessing from God. I’m so thankful that I get to be their mom. Everyday is not easy, but it’s worth it. I’m upmost thankful for my husband. This amazing man of God is beyond anything I could’ve ever asked for. He fun, loving, and understanding- even in times that I don’t understand. I’d be so lost without him and he picks me up when I am down. He takes care of our family, cars, and house even when I can’t. I’m truly thankful that I can be married to him everyday and share the life we’ve created together.

I’m thankful for my parents. My dad is such a special person. I’m thankful for his presence everyday, his knowledge and his stories. I’m thankful that his is here to see my kids grow up. My mom is seriously Wonder Woman. She always keeps me ‘wondering’ how she does it all. I’m thankful that she’s my mom. I’m thankful for what she does and who she is: caregiver, mom, teacher, friend, grandma, daughter, sister, wife- and many, many more roles. I know in my heart she is guided everyday by the hands of our Lord. I’m thankful that her strength has gotten her through some of the darkest days. I’m thankful that she accommodates all the needs of everyone around her, even if that means she sacrifices something for herself. I’m just beyond thankful for my mom.

I’m thankful that I get to share life with my auntie! I’m so thankful that is apart of our lives and gets to see my little ones! I’m thankful that she is there for us and we get to laugh and love together again!

I’m thankful for my family and friends. I’m thankful for my health even though it’s not the best at times. I’m thankful for my job and my education. I’m thankful for all of you allowing me to share my life with you and following me along the journey.

Above all, I’m thankful to Jesus. Over the course of this year, I’ve really tired to learn to talk to Him and listen to what He tells me. In days of not understanding, He has shown me the way. He has guided me in all things. In times when nothing makes sense, I’ve been able to talk to Jesus and find sense and direction. I’m so thankful that our Lord listens to me, in all times- good and bad. Even in times when I’ve found it difficult to understand, He’s listened.

This my friends, is what life is all about.

Remember on this beautiful Thanksgiving day to say thank you to those you love, those who help you, or those who are by your side.

So especially today, have a wonderful day. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Be blessed,

Kassandra 🧡
